My mantra is, sink deeper into yourself. It is the only true way of creating art deeply resonating your being.

Anushray Singh is an award-winning filmmaker, media professional, educator, and writer who divides his time between India and Canada. He has received his MFA in Film & Media Arts from the University of Windsor (2020) and B.Tech in Civil Engineering from the Vellore Institute of Technology (2017)

Anushray has been associated with various organizations across North America, South Asia, the UK and Europe. The associations have been of diverse variety from being a filmmaker, teacher, writer, guest speaker, award recipient, event organizer, academic researcher, student leader, and other creative engagements.

Currently he is an LTA Instructor in the School of Creative Arts at University of the Fraser Valley. He is also a session faculty member at LaSalle College Vancouver. He teaches Digital Photography, Media Arts and Film Studies.

He also manages South Asian Creative Project, an organization rethinking and supporting the evolving artists, creatives and free spirits of Indian and broader South Asian diaspora in Canada and across the globe.

Speaker - UFV 50th Anniversary media arts showcase (2024)

I’ve been teaching digital photography, media arts and film studies for more than a year now @ufvsoca @goufv

My classes responded to the themes of being a student, work-life balance, diversity, inclusion, international experience and much more. We laid out their works in poster formats across the hall!

Their work has been shown in a greatly supported event celebrating 50 years of the University of the Fraser Valley.

Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award (2022)

for the documentary, The North Was Our Canaan, which explored Sandwich Town's rich Underground Railroad history. @onheritage

The Lieutenant Governor's Heritage Awards, administered by the Ontario Heritage Trust, are prestigious awards that recognize exceptional contributions to heritage conservation, environmental sustainability and biodiversity, and cultural and natural heritage. These awards are presented annually at a ceremony at Queen’s Park in Toronto, but the event was held virtually this year.

Best Director Short Documentary - Best Canadian Documentary Short International Black & Diversity Film Festival (2021)

The North was Our Canaan is an SSHRC funded short documentary enumerating the historical struggles of anti-slavery and civil rights advocates in an era where slavery, segregation and discrimination were the norms. Sandwich town in Windsor, ON, Canada is one of those historical places where refugees escaping from slavery in America found a safe house. We navigate through the historical landmarks of this town, listen to the stories of these brave souls through the very mouths of this Black community who still celebrates, rejoice and takes pride in the bravery, struggle and the history that led to a better society for people of colour in North America.

I am honoured to have a chapter in the book: “Third Space: An Intercultural Negotiation of South Asian Diaspora in Canada.”The volume contains sixteen chapters written based by scholars based across different parts of the world.I am happy to provide an insight into my film/media thesis research topic of “inbetweenness,” and “identity,” a common feature in South Asian immigration to Canada.I genuinely hope that this became a resource for scholars and students across the world.

Zuerst/First: Official Selection at Vienna Poetry Festival's Special Award (2019)

The international SPECIAL AWARD of the Vienna Poetry Festival is an award based on a certain festival poem, which is made available in German by the festival for filming. The award opens up very specific opportunities. Viewing different films about the same poems brings the audience into an intimate and very close relationship with the poetic spirit of the poem.
