Content Writer/Editor, Juice Droplet


Working as an editor at Juice, I am responsible for maintaining the Op-Ed page of the website. This includes regularly writing new content for the platform, editing, proofreading & managing submissions. Working with the editorial and creative team of the Juice, I am also involved in setting the voice/theme of the magazine's monthly issue. The role also entails in optimizing content for the company’s social media through marketing strategies honed in SEO and keyword formation.

I see my brown identity as a “transient” one, “in a constant state of flux”, always shifting and often found somewhere in-between the cultures of South Asia (“India”) and the West (“Canada”). To me, Juice is an “authentic” space for relaying these notions – a Third Space – for South Asian diasporic artists, creatives and writers to take “authorship” of their own stories and narratives.

MFA Film & Media Arts Thesis Support Document

This MFA support document situates my artistic method and inspiration. It enunciates the framework for my work as a South Asian diasporic artist based in Canada – creating media art and films centred on themes of 1. Nostalgia; 2. Inbetweenness; 3. Hereness and Thereness. Through three short films, I explore the transient nature of home, where the diasporic body is always lost – constantly navigating the meaning of self and the home. This is relayed by combining and juxtaposing visuals from my South Asian homeland (India) and Western hostland (Canada) with audio recordings of three poems. I see these short films as a cross between what is often seen as, “N.R.I. nostalgia,” a mainstream pastiche that sees "Non-Resident Indians"—usually Indian immigrants in the Western world—longing for a home to return to, and “experimental poetry films” relaying a “poetic juxtaposition” of disparate audio and visual elements. The choice of recording the poems in both Hindi and English is an attempt to reflect cultural hybridity –an Indian-South Asian and Canadian-Western. Similarly, many South Asian diasporic emotions of bereavement, nostalgia and belonging are often performed through this kind of hybridity which at their core are artistic expressions that explore discourses of home, nostalgia, race, gender, national identity, representation, and ethnicity. These are often observed in both South Asian diasporic and popular cinema.
